i tried to not blog about this topic for a very long time

but NO. the Straits Times wanna do an article which talks about comparisons between the JCs and the Polys (polies) again.

again, the JCs took the blame. we JC students are too obsessed with theories, as such we lack in practical skills compared the the skillful poly students.

that the poly students, with their practical skills, are more able to survive in the labour market as compared to JC students.

and that most of the friction between these two groups of people is because JC students do not understand Poly students (and syllabus) well enough to promote unity, common comprehension and harmony between these two.

FUCK LARH. WAKE UP YOUR IDEA fuckwit.

why the fuck do u even compare JC and polys.

YES poly education is more skills-based. JC more on theories. BUT WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU GUYS SO FUCKING MYOPIC when discussing these?

arent u ignoring the fact that JC is JUST A STEPPING STONE towards a better University education with superior skills being imparted as that taught in the poly?

At the end, its the JC students who have both BETTER comprehension of theories and more advanced skills than the poly students?

also its the JC students (after their uni education) who bring home more bread than a diploma 'graduate' [i believe the term grad is solely reserved for uni graduates. if not, even kindergarten grads can be called graduates].

These facts u cant deny. i dont care about the processes by which we acheive our means, but in the end its the JC students who will have a better chance in succeeding better in the local and even foreign market.

of course polytechnics do produce outstanding students. but how many, compared to the JC bunch?

its like in neighbourhood schools, a few students get 6 A1s, its like OMMMGGG -bimbo scream-

but in other schools like RI, and my motherskool tchs, 8A1s will pass off as an 'okay. no big deal'.

a few success stories doesnt mean your institution is definitely better?

its totally insignificant when compared to the thousands of directors, CEOs, CFOs, Doctors, Lawyers, produced by JC-attending Uni grads.

so if the people wanna compare POLY with SOMEBODY, compare it with other institution which provides similar education in terms of skills and knowledge,
LIKE THE UNIVERSITIES.

so just leave JCs alone. there's no point comparing JCs with polys. totally diff systems. its crazy.

just reached home and switched on the tv for some half hour of visual orgasm, and i chanced upon discovery channel's

"Seconds Before Disastor"

i'm sure most of you should know about the railway accident in France (Paris) some years ago involving the collision of a runaway train (with brakes failure) with another packed train, killing 50+ and injuring another 50+

what's immensely appalling wasn't exactly the death toll, though tragic it remains, but how the whole tragedy develops.

this all begins with ignorant selfish fuckwits.

1) a single mother pulls the emergency stop handle because SHE MISSED A STATION. imagine doing that in singapore. u'll be stoned by the other passengers.

2) the driver had to reset the emergency brakes but because the reset handle is so stiff, he actually stepped on the MAIN BRAKE handle to gain leverage, effectively disabling the brakes.

3) when realising his main gas-pressure brakes are fucked, he promptly panicked and forgot about his electrical auxillary brakes

4) he radioed for help but didnt identify his train, and left the controllers puzzled over which train was fucked up. so the controllers decided to call back to every train bound for that station.

5) he pressed the distress button, causing all other trains to stop and call the control station, flooding the controllers with calls, and are unable to contact the screwed up train.

6) he left the 'cockpit'

and so the train crashed wth another train. thanks to the selfish fucked up single mother, and the ignorant driver.

thats why we should always purge and remove the ignorant and irresponsible from our society, for the bettermend of our community as a whole.

i've met such people in the army. and no they're not from neighbourhood schools or poly. but from jcs. supposedly being more well-endowed cranially.

i've this guy who shot his rifle right behind my ear. i cudnt hear anything for a good minute, during fire-and-movement procedures and i was the section leader.

"BANG BANG. Recruit YJ killed by friendly fire"

then another, a scholar of the republic of singapore navy, my division mate. he's nice larh but seriously if i go to war, i dont want to be on the same ship as him.

he crashed his ship into the tanker.
our boat got hit by enemies because he forgot the missile firing procedure and cudnt fire back
he panicked (he was the 'captain')and stoned and i had to take command. i was the navigating officer damnit. its crazy to give out firing control orders and looking out for navigation landmarks at the same time knn.

so, moral of the story, to prevent stupidity from proliferating, i suggest all put in extra effort in mastering skills required for their knowledge

and not being a ignorant half-witted slacker shunning work because WORK IS UNCOOL?

As we all know, it's easier for us to breathe in, than breathe out air in the event of airway obstruction because while breathing out, increased thoracic and intrapleural pressure causes the collapse of bronchioles, causing it increasingly hard for you smokers to exhale

my parents are the best (a personal view). dad works hard, hardly in singapore, travellign around to bring back the bread. my mum looks after us, amuses us with her adorably cute actions. they love me. i love them too. veyr much so.

but parents will not be with us forever. no matter how much the love is, they'll have to leave someday. someday, some disease will hit our parents, and the downwards spiral will occur, as we witness their demise, them shrinking and shrivelling into an empty shell of yesterday's glory. that'll happen. one day. someday.

i'll miss them. my mum's smile, her fat cheeks. my dad's lame jokes, and his obsession with evening jogs. i'll miss my mum's naggins, reminding me to eat my veg, my dad's personal golf tutorials with me, the times we spent on the 18 holes, the times we spent in london.

thus an article on poly and jc students was published a few days ago
as usual, the focus was on how theory-based jc education is, heavily reliant on examinations with endless paper chase,

not as pragmatic as the hands on mode of education provided by the polytechnics, providing their students wiht vital life skills and practical knowledge

and of course they wont forget to mention the few souls leaving jcs to espouse the ways of the polies.

i am not denying polies of their well-deserved respect in terms of practical skills, nor am i suggesting that poly students are stupid. in fact the poly guys i hang out with are fun people, street-saavy though not exactly academically inclined.

what i am recommending, is that the media stop comparing JCs and polytechnics. This does nothing but to increase the existing polarity between students of respective institutions.

if the media refuses to ditch their anti-jc trend, well at least do the right thing by publishing the truth, that jc provides students with an A-level cert, which increases their chances of obtaining a degree which provides equal, if not more, practical experience required of a working professional. as wendy cheng once pointed out: a degree in biomedical sciences vs a diploma in biomedical sciences. which fetches more bread?

(i) a muslim protestor in an anti-US demonstration wearing a nike hat and an adidas shirt.

(iii) a zhongguoren (to avoid confusing foreign chinese with mainland chinese) protesting against the shrine visits by koizumi instigating other protestors via sms, with a nokia phone
(iv) china accusing japan of colonial intentions, when they themselves invaded tibet years ago
(v) US accusing china of human rights violation when CIA torture their enemies

and many major embarrassments
(i) malaysia accused singapore's land reclamation as the cause of pollution. research found out that the pollution came from malaysia themselves.

i'm sure the advent of talent searches was much-loved, brought over by the american idol fever. singaporeans decided to create singapore idol! with the usual uproar, the surges of support, the throngs of fans cutting at each others' throats fervently punching handphone keys to vote for their dearest Sylfucker sim, Orgrelinda, Maiarse Lee, Taufik [the only one with a bit of talent]. woah almost felt like world war came early, with extra glamour, zest, zeal, scandals and totally stupid accusations of churches coming together to support one of their sheep. exciting! epinephrine from my sympathetic stimulation pumping through my carotids causing widespread vasoconstriction = arterial Pa = increased GFR etc etc. wadever.

then came Star idol by channel U

followed by Superhost again by Channel EEW

then came Campus Superstars again by channel EEWW

now channel 5's reviving SINGAPORE IDOL. wow.

never ending search for talents huh. singapore's so damn full of talents everywhere that our dearest TV producers believe in spending millions, thousands of hours groooming a noobie with so-called talents who were chosen by our wise audiences and knowledgeable public who are self-professed experts in phonations, vocal control, celebrity aura, charisma, melody, tunes.

Apparently to these educated supporters who are able to secure a phone line and well-trained in remembering numbers irritatingly similar to those of donation lines (which i call btw), being:

1) friends with the star wannabe. WANNABE
2) influenced by the wannabe being sexy and cute
3) forced to submit to peer pressure (quote: vote SLY lar or i HAMTAM YOU *screams*)
4) forced by an equally elightened spouse of impossible enthusiasm and astronomical bimbotixity to vote for her "POM PEE YOUR FUCK PEE" ORGELYNDA

wasting money, feeding singtel and helping entertainment producers milk the last penny out of your own pocket, no, out of your PARENTS' pockets (because most of these voters i know are surviving off their parent's greenbacks), is all worth it! as long as the idol wins, and HOPEFULLY HE/SHE/IT will remember you out of the supposed thousands of people of similar intellect. wow sounds like a great trade to me!

okay i'm sorry. seriously i dont blame the voters from being led on by the sheer flood of excitment and interest from the general public. its only human to do so. who wants to miss out the fun and get left out of the brouhaha?

i, however, blame the producers. they know that theres no way they can find talents from these wannabes because, as demonstrated by our malaysian, indonesian, american, british counterparts, WHO MADE IT BIG? lets look at our local example. Taufik's no star, just a well-known singer (he's got talent), Orgelinda's being casted in Shrek 3, Slyfuckster's being talent-scouted to act as an extra in Jack Neo's "I Not Paikia", while Maiarse Lee started her own school dedicated to teaching idol-wannabe's how to shake their arses the way maiarse lee shakes hers on stage to impress some of her gluteus-worshipping supporters, to get married really quick with a fellow contestant and say "oops i was drunk i think alcohol killed my few neurones *vomit*", and also how to catch the media's attention by stating on FHM that you hate local guys because u're all high and mighty andyour gluteus maximus are gigantic.

However, as though ignoring these poor showings, singaporean kids are still TRYING REALLY HARD to stick their neck into this cockfight, exposing their tender trapezius on the chopping boards of our local entertainment producers. Yea some might win, celebrate, and are FORGOTTEN in a few weeks time. eh wait. LEANDRA WHO?

of course the public (voters) are not without blame. after all voting a person based on their popularity is wrong. popularity, unlike skills, doesnt last. sigh. its time we wake up (i was a voter). we not only feed the producers rich with our phone bills, we've also nurtured future dreamers, wannabe, poseurs out of our society's future pillars.

as shown in countless example, populist leaders are inefficient pussies.

my family started off as pig farmers in the 1970s
the watershed being my uncle be given money to start a company on hardware supplies
it was then some customer advised use to shift our focus to oilfield supplies and all went astronomical with public listings, takeovers, and investments by GLCs. so yea while the previous generation can bask in the magnitude of their successes, we sitll have a long way to go.

in 10 years down the road w'll have three doctors and 1 lawyer, maybe more. that's success in the eyes of my parents. is it really?

anyway chinese new year becomes more and more like a checkpoint in our long race of life to the finishingline, not that we wanna reach the end so quickly

to remind us of the hard work we've put in the year before
